Mt. Adams in Washington State

Skiing season isn't over yet. Since there are a bunch of high volcanoes close by (well, this one is about 650km away) we jumped into our car on Friday after work and drove down to the US. The drive was about 10 hours so we got to the camp ground around 4am Saturday morning. That's when the first people got up to climb the mountain, well, their plan was to do it in a day. We wanted to do it in 2 days and camp up high.

Our driving route.

Saturday around noon we started to hike. Funny, 20 degrees in the shade and you have skis on your back back in the middle of July. With us came Ed.

We had to hike for about 1 hour before we could put skis on.

And then we could start skinning :-), Mt. Adams in the back ground.

Seppel going uphill -it was hot. In the back is Mt. Hood, another Volcano.

Sometimes we had to take the skis off and hike a few meters. The landscape was pretty nice, different than the coast mountains.

After about 3 hours we had a lunch break in the shade.

After that we continued to skin up. In the back you can see Mt. St. Helens. In 1980 Mt. St. Helens erupted. It killed 57 people, the worst volcanic eruption in the history of the US. If you want to read more about it, here is a link: www.en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_St._Helens

Sometimes there wasn't a lot of snow left, I quite like the intensity of the colours, blue, black, white, red and green.

What a view. We got closer to our camp location :-).

Ed checking out the camp spot. Since it is quite busy up there people build walls to prevent themselves and the tents from the wind.

Later on we had one of the best sunsets. Mt. Hood in the back. Can you see that small little fire, you will see what happens later on.
